Going green is the in things, so we have green energy, green car and even green hotel. The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang hotel in Penang, a resort island in Malaysia was awarded the Asean Green Hotel Award 2010 for the second consecutive year.
The hotel takes its commitment to preservation of environment very seriously. Our survival can only be guaranteed when we take care of the environment. The company believe in the 4R’s… Recycle, Reuse, reduce and rethink.
The green concept has to start from the building blue print. It need to have the features to use and optimize the environment with causing undue disturbance. Designed to take advantage of the natural light due reduce the usage of electricity, designed with the view to keep the internal spaces cool with minimum aircondition.
The materials have to come from sustainable technology, the woods from the planted timber, The glass is glazed to reflect the hot sun light. Even the customers amenities such as the papers are from recycle types.
There is a system to collect the rain water to be used for plants watering and toilet system. It does add additional cost, but the saving in the cost can be substantial. The heat from aircondition is used to heat up the hot water.
